Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) course and exam

Post by alikocho »

I've spoken with a few of you, but I'm sounding out interest on the idea of running a course of classes with a view towards taking the BJCP exam at some point early next year.

The course is interesting, covers a range of beer styles, brewing techniques, troubleshooting and more. The course would be free, but some contribution to group tasting would be expected.

The exam has a nominal $50 fee.

And of course, there's the opportunity to gain some judging experience (and points) in the upcoming Bristol Homebrew Competition!

Maybe, but possibly not. We need a talk on it to see what's involved :)

Is this guide ( http://www.fordhomebrew.org/index.php?v ... &Itemid=34 ) represenatitive of what's involved?

To some extent, but the stuff on the BJCP website gives a clearer picture - http://www.bjcp.org/study.php and he style guide gives a run down of the categories to cover.

I have a list of names from the last meeting. Seems worth running the course, so I'll get things planned for a September start.

Those that want to do the course, should probably look to judge in the competition in September (as Novice judges), which will give you some experience and get you some points on the board.

Hi Ali,

Just to reconfirm, I'm up for it. Any exam where you get to drink beer sounds my kind of thing.

cheers

I have names for those who expressed an interest in the BJCP course and exam.

The maximum number of seats for the exam is 20.

I have requested an exam slot - the earliest we can have is October 2012 as the BJCP limits the number of exams per month.

The course will begin in September this year. All wishing to take the course should be thinking about judging in the National Homebrew Competition - this will be valuable experience. I will be in touch in die course with more information.

Anyone who has an interest in the course and taking the exam should contact me.
