BJCP Training Session 1 - Pale Lagers

Post by Rob___I »

What a way to kick off the training sessions - pale lagers!

This session will cover:

Beer:
American Lager, Cream Ale, International Pale Lager, Czech Pale Lager, Czech Premium Pale Lager, German Pils, German Helles Exportbier, Munich Helles, Festbier, Helles Bock.
Technical topic:
Malt, including the malting process, types, adjuncts, kilning and the styles with which different malts are associated.

The format will be
- Drink and discuss commercial examples (I'll pick up 8 or so of these).
- Analyse and 'score' a single commercial example and discuss.
- Open forum on the technical topic.

Bit of homework beforehand, please look through these sections of the BJCP Style Guidelines https://www.bjcp.org/docs/2015_Guidelines_Beer.pdf
1A American Light Lager
1B American Lager
1C Cream Ale
2A International Pale Lager
3A Czech Pale Lager
3B Czech Premium Pale Lager
4A Munich Helles
4B Festbier
4C Helles Bock
5A German Leichtbier
5C German Helles Exportbier
5D German Pils
7C Kellerbier: Pale Kellerbier
9A Doppelbock - Pale

We will be meeting at Ruby Jeans Cafe on Monday 16th March 2020 at 7:30pm.
Pembroke Rd, Shirehampton, Bristol BS11 9SA

This is open to everyone including existing BJCP judges (who's input will really help the process).

See you there and cheers,
Rob

With the recent Coronavirus developments, I’d like to get people’s opinions on this please.

If the general consensus is we shouldn’t meet then I am happy to wait until this all blows over and start the training sessions up in a couple of months/whenever we are all ready.

What are people’s thoughts?

(If we aren’t meeting tomorrow, I’ll try not to drink all of the Munich Helles I’ve ‘stock piled’!)

I’ve spoken with some others and as it is only a small group of us we should be ok to meet later.
This is at your own discretion- if you feel in well or have been to any right risk places then it is probably best to steer clear.
Everyone else, I’ll see you later at Ruby Jeans. Prost!

Hi Rob,

I'm not going to attend the sessions for now, I don't think it is wise do so. If you want to proceed that's fine and understand, perhaps we can do another set of sessions later in the year.

Hope you're okay. Enjoy the beers!

Simon.

In light of the Government's most recent advice to avoid pubs, clubs etc. we will not be meeting tonight.

We'll pick this up again in the near future.

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
