Bristol Homebrew Competition in September

Post by alikocho »

As some will know from the last BCB meeting, I'm planning a homebrew competition for the first Saturday in September in Bristol. The venue is as yet to be confirmed.

Entry will be 2 bottles of between 330ml and 568ml. An entry fee will be levied in order to cover the costs of running the competition (as yet to be confirmed). A discount will apply for multiple entries. Entries may come from anywhere in the UK.

The competition will be sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program and follow their rules for juding procedures. Judging will be in line the BJCP styleguide http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/catdex.php, although the organizers reserve the right to collapse categories as numbers dictate. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all classes, with first placed entries advancing to juding for Best of Show. All entrants will recive feedback on their entries.

In order to pull this event off, we will need people to judge, and to steward (bring bottles to tables etc). All judges and stewards will receive points for advancement in the BJCP.

Anyone interested in judging or stewarding at the competition should contact me.

Additionally, should anyone have an interest in studying for and taking the BJCP exam, this would be an excellent opportunity for us to start thinking about organising a study course in Bristol with a view to an exam early next year. Again, if this is something people might be interested in, let me know. The course would be free (there is a nominal fee for the exam).

I'll help in whatever ways I can. I'll also enter a few classes.

I've just learned that the Craft Brewer's Association national competition will likely not run this year. It seems that the Bristol Homebrew Competition will effectively take its place.

I'd hoped for a big event, but it seems that it could be really large.
