2012 National Competition Organization

Post by alikocho »

In order to not do all of this on my own again, this is the first call out for suggestions and help.

Firstly, what type of event?

a) just a competition
b) a competition with a social afterwards
c) a competition that takes place at the same time as some seminars and with a social event afterwards

Its worth bearing in mind, that some of these models could be practically challenging problematic, and that they all bear different space requirements and therefore cost. They also have different levels of input in terms of finding volunteers to do things.

Secondly, I'd like to get people on board to help with organization. Aside from Judges and Stewards on the day, I'd like to have people on board to help with the following:

Venue, storage and disposal
Seminar organization (if applicable)
Catering
Admin

Do I have any volunteers?

I can't be there on the day, which is a shame, but I'm up for helping with the organisation work before the event.

I don't think it's my place to vote on the format of the day since I won't be there, but I'd have to advise against doing too much. Having said that, it does make sense for those that have come a long way to be kept occupied while the judging is going on.

I'll have a good think about it today when my hangover goes away...
Taz... or Chris. It's up to you.

We could use Steve C's gas burner or a BBQ for the wings, we can also promote heavy drinking with 'hot wing roulette'. Means I could only judge the morning flight though.

Now, this is looking like an even better plan. And I even know a venue or two where this would work!

Accross three forums (here, JBK, THBF) the votes come in as:

a) 4
b) 10
c) 16

Some may be duplicates....

Option C might be doable, but will require much more input from people offering seminars. It will also cost more in space usage, so there would have to be an entrance fee for the event.

Suggested seminar topics (and speakers)?

I would guess that most of those people who went for option c took no part in the running of the event last year, and my gut feeling is that the decision will ultimately come down to you, and whether you have time to organise speakers etc.

Hot wings roulette sounds effin immense though!

Indeed. I'd love to go for option c, but it might not be practical to do so.

At the moment, I'm leaning heavily towards using the Annexe at St Werburghs Community Centre.

I am available on the day, I'd love to judge again but if not, I am happy to help in whatever way I can.

Looking forward to it!
