I can ask my mate Phil if he'd be up for running a bar. He has a mobile bar which he runs at festivals etc.
Taz... or Chris. It's up to you.

I was actually thinking of seeing if BBF and Arbor wanted to run a bar together....I want to make it about the Bristol Beer scene as well as just homebrew if we can.

Do I have any volunteers?
There were offers of help last year, in fact I started the thread to suggest it viewtopic.php?f=12&t=115 so there really was no reason to have to do it all yourself.

Happy to assist but I presume that you'll get lots of help from the CBA anyway?

As for what type of event, competition only, but with a lounge for people to mingle.

I know. I have a better idea of what needs to be done this time though. Even so, have a tendency to want to have control.

Financial help yes. Practical help, not sure.

Ah. Now that's an option I hadn't thought of.

Maybe a 'hospitality suite' with a selection of beers?

Sensible man Roger. By 'lounge' you mean somewhere to smoke and eat meats whilst drinking beer presumably?

There is allways somewhere to smoke, it's called "outside".

That's what I thought you meant.

I've been pondering the rest of the 'lounge' for the event.....

I propose that the socialising aspect be organised thusly:

A 'bar' will be set up in the venue, with space to hangout. This will be open during the whole event, staffed by volunteers. You want a beer, you go get it. The bar will have capacity to serve a number of (ball lock) cornies at a time (3? 6?) on equipment provided at the event and set up to deal with the ambient temp. Cask might be doable, but would be more of a challenge unless bright. Bottles can also be provided at the bar, or may be placed elsewhere.

The beer comes from people bringing it, and need not necessarily have been entered in the competition, but may have been and need not have been brewed by an entrant. The name, style, ABV and brewer should be identifiable. No money will change hands for beer.

In addition to this, beer not required for further judging will be made available after categories have been judged. A list will be provided for identification of beers. It is suggested that people may want to bring more of their entries with them.

How does this sound?

And anyone want to volunteer to help out with it? We'd need beer from individuals and clubs, people to set-up, clean up, serve, manage stock, get beer down their fronts....

And I'm thinking about glassware - a 'festival' glass for all who come to put the beer in?

You'll have to budget for some security presence. I can imagine if the word got out that somewhere in St.W's had free beer - help yourself - all the local low-lifes would be in there in a flash. Proper security, with experience and insurance cover etc, probably £15 per hour? Some way to tell the low-lifes from the entrants would be needed, also it would need to be restricted to entrants alone or you'll get a bunch of free-loaders.

I've thought of all of that.
