Good, but rather too long a day. Clearly that number of entries needs a lot more judges and stewards to be completed in a sensible timescale :)

The number of infected bottles was probably higher this year in the classes I judged and I find this really suprising. It can't be rocket science to bottle a few extra beers and sample one before submitting your entry?

Congrats to SteveC, Ali, MarkG and RichP for doing so well in such a big comp :)

Thanks Roger. Yes it was a long day, and I agree about the infection rates, especially gushers. Kudos to Ali for organising - a hell of a task, and all the stewards, judges and caterers. I really enjoyed myself and learned a lot about beer, styles, judging etc.

I judged light hybrids with Pete and we found two excellent Kolsch's (one of them Marks) and ali's winning american wheat. Also judged amber hybrids and scottish and irish ales. The winner of the S&I ales was absolutely cracking - unfortunately only 1 bottle. Roger and i thought this was a contender for best in show. NZ pales were not overwhelming in quality i thought.

Unfortunately I had to leave before the end but hope it wasn't too chaotic clearing up. I look forward to next years!

cheers

I judged light hybrids with Pete and we found two excellent Kolsch's (one of them Marks) and ali's winning american wheat. Also judged amber hybrids and scottish and irish ales. The winner of the S&I ales was absolutely cracking - unfortunately only 1 bottle. Roger and i thought this was a contender for best in show. NZ pales were not overwhelming in quality i thought.

Unfortunately I had to leave before the end but hope it wasn't too chaotic clearing up. I look forward to next years!

cheers
thanks for being kind about my kolsch, it made my weekend...I don't understand one got broken and where? I would if liked to if tried alis beer it must of been a cracker

I think that's probably more like how you meant to format that post eh? Your kolsch had both bottles there as far as I can tell from Steve's post, it was the winner in Scottish and Irish that only had the one bottle.

Anyway, good to (sort of) meet you, though a shame I didn't put a name to a forum name as I was supposed to be sorting you out some Ahtanum, wasn't I? I did the food with Mike and sort of wandered around aimlessly trying different beers in the morning session.

Oh yeah, and congrats on the second for the kolsch, that was mine in third, so I would have really like to try yours too...

One of the bottles had broken in the package. I almost cut my hand on the glass fishing the good one out. This wasn't the only casualty. One box lost half a dozen.

I'm surprised I didn't see anymore disasters considering the sheer quantity of beer precariously positioned.
Yes it's a shame mark, I didn't ask your online name... Ahtanum remains a bloody difficult hop to get!..if you want to do a beer swap I'm willing, my kolsch is a one off it seems as I must of shut my laptop before id saved it on beersmith..gutted I have a
Rough idea but not some of the smaller details in the day.
