Would there be any interest in an inter-club competition.
Say we pick a style, select the best from within the club, get other clubs to do the same, and it all gets judged by a host club (which rotates). This means that feedback gets given to a few, but it will also serve to build some inter-club networks, which wouldn't be a bad thing. And it could feed into 'Club of the Year' on a sort of league table basis.

Re: Inter-club competition
So, a 1.038-1.044 session beer using only Fuggles and Goldings for the hops then?

Re: Inter-club competition
Well, it would be a challenge to make some something so normal :)
Re: Inter-club competition
Love it Rog, slight reference there? I would be interested but not if this was the style to go for, I don't think I would want to make something so dull. I brew beer so I can drink stuff you can't find in pubs (at least most of the time) I don't see the point in recreating something you could just go and buy down the local.Trunky wrote:So, a 1.038-1.044 session beer using only Fuggles and Goldings for the hops then?
Burns stuff. And makes beer. Usually not at the same time.
Re: Inter-club competition
I think, again, Roger is taking the pith!
It would be nice to have something wider than a BJCP category to work with.
Maybe an ingredient list, leaving the brewer to decide the proportions, method and yeast.
But a "1.038-1.044 session beer using only Fuggles and Goldings", if there were 300g or so of post boil hops might be interesting!

The craft beer revolution will not be sanitised!

Re: Inter-club competition
I was just airing the idea of the inter-club competition, not necessarily asking for a style to be chosen......
But, how about this (allowing for creativity, but with a degree of focus):
Single Hop Session Beers (c. 1.040) - the focus should be on a beer of low-moderate alcohol, which should be highly drinkable (i.e. people would want to keep coming back for more).

North Cotswold Amateur Brewers in Cheltenham - I know the guys here from when I attended one of their meetings last year.
Graham Kingham runs the North Devon Amateur Brewers.
There is also the South Wales group
... and slightly further afield, LAB

If you were to omit the London group and add in the Oxford group which is closer then you have a nice cosy group to take this forward with.MapperMatt wrote:North Cotswold Amateur Brewers in Cheltenham - I know the guys here from when I attended one of their meetings last year.
