Shiny New Boiler!

Post by periolus »

YAY! Thanks to the very helpful and experienced Mr. Lard, to whom I am very grateful for hosting me last night, I have a VERY shiny new 5.5kW boiler. I will post photos at some point, maybe once the whole brewery is built.

The ball valve terminates with a SS hose barb on the inside, onto which silicone tubing will be fitted and connected to a mesh hop filter.

Great stuff! I am very happy ; )

Well done :)

I've got to get around to starting my new boiler with two elements in. Todays brew just convinced me to get on with it as I had an element failure just as I was getting to the boil.

Shitloads (3-4mm thick) of gunk on the element, it had only overheated but I replaced it anyway :-| Teach me to never clean me element in over three years I s'pose.

Limescale seems to be the neck-pain of brewers' lives! The odd boil with vinegar does the trick, but obviously need enough to cover the elements. A solution of 1:2 with water to make it go further does the job apparently.

Good luck with your build Roger! I am looking forward to cracking the other parts now. With hols in between and various other bits and bobs, I am hoping to be up and running for a brew on my own rig by Sunday 16th September.

We'll see!

Not there yet - sorting out a shiny new HLT tonight! Then finishing MT at the weekend, followed by chiller next weekend. The weekend after that will hopefully see AG#2 (first on my kit).

I hope to brew three times in three weeks:

AG#2: Lord pOtO's Best Bitter (Best Bitter)
AG#3: Trafalgar Cross (Some kind of Pale with Nelson and Bramling X)
AG#4: Airspace Hooch (Pacific IPA)

Can't wait! Should have 2 beers to try at the December BCB.

You'll need a winter warmer for that one.....

Ah yes! I guess if I knock something out during October, I could just about have it ready for then. Will think on that one. Will the tastings just be the WW's for that session?

Last year we had over a dozen high ABV beers, not many were in a fit state to try anything else apart from sausage rolls and cheese.
