Hop Rocket

Post by steve crawshaw »

Yet another addition to the cellar of gadgets, but wonderfully at no cost. I was lucky enough to win a blichmann hop rocket

http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/blichmann ... ocket.html

in Brew UK's recent competition. Now all I need is sh*tload more hops...

cheers

I was planning to use a randall full of hops and tranfer the beer from one corny to another through it. I presume you could use this in the same way?

Just a way of buffing the beer up with hops before serving/bottling.

yes, it's air \ water tight with 1/2" NPT (BSP?) fittings. Also has a vent so you can bleed the air from it. You can fit JG fittings onto the connections and as you say give the beer a hop charge while transferring. There's a video on brewUK's website.

NPT and BSP don't exactly match. The threads per inch is slightly off, but PTFE tape will normally allow them to mesh. Or you use JG disconnects, or even better polysulfone disconnects that will deal with high temps (available from More Beer, or from Cole Palmer in the UK).

not yet, when I get my pump from Mr. Lard I will give it a go as it requires some pressure to work effectively. I will report back when I have had a go. I have a new fermenter so I really hope that cures my infection - I will be going straight from the boiler (chilling) then into it so if I still get an infection I think I'll have to give up!
cheers
