Does zinc react with wort?

Post by Capn Ahab »

Bought some zinc plated washers to weigh down my dry-hops - will they hurt my beer?

Zinc plated what?

I'd avoid anything other than Stainless in contact with beer post-fermentation as a result of flavour pickup.

Just got a similar reply on jbk. Rich was supposed to bring me the rest of his SS bar last night. Was kinda banking on it as I want to start dry-hopping my IPA tonight...

No worries all. Serendipitously I got over 2 kg of stainless steel stud rod (easy Taz!) offcuts from Infix on Stapleton Rd for a fiver! Tidy.

I use stainless bolts and have taken to autoclaving them prior to using them as dry hopping weights just to make sure there's no nasties hiding in the threads.
