BIAB / no sparge brewing
For those who practice BIAB type brewing, have you developed any innovative methods for holding the grain? I'm not sold on the idea of a fabric bag holding 15Kg+ of wet malt.
Re: BIAB / no sparge brewing
I assumed the seams in a bag would be the the most likely point of failure so I used a single net curtain "voile" padded around the inside of the boiler and hanging over the rim. Secured around the rim with rope (others use bungee cords), when it is time to lift just gather up the overhang in one hand, spin the "bag" with the other then tie it shut.
Bag gets drained in a bucket with a cake tray in the base, in the aussie forum I learnt from, they drain over the boiler using a hook into a ceiling joist to hoist the bag.
I wonder if you could test by placing a cushion on the sheet to prevent concentrating pressure or snagging the voile, put a bucket with 15 litres of water in, gather up the sheet edges and lift?
Dunelm do voile for a fiver.

Re: BIAB / no sparge brewing
Whilst I'm very competent with a sewing machine and understand fabric reinforcement well, I just don't like the idea of heaving a squidgy bag of hot grain around.
Possibly lining something like this, but in SS, would be a step in the right direction.
