Stock Pots

Post by darrenw »

Hi,

I've been boiling in a (25l) Alu. stock pot for a while and at the beginning I thought it would be OK, obviously its not so I just want to invest in a bigger one, seen this one here http://www.brewstore.co.uk/32-litre-sta ... 3894-p.asp and its a good price, the brews I expect to be doing are never going to be more than 23l.

I've never had any issues with the hops, normally fish them out at the end and never seem to have any in the primary at the end so cant see why I should be looking at a false bottom to filter them out.

So questions:

1. I assume this will be fine If i wanted to put a hop filter in at a later date
2. Assume size is fine
3. is it good value, or can they be sourced cheaper elsewhere?

a 23L brew length will need about 30L preboil which will mean that pot is tight and boil overs will be likely. Better to go for a 50L if you can. http://www.homebrewbuilder.co.uk/hlts%2 ... ttles.html

I went to Rajani's in Eastville for the first time today. They have everything. Including Al and SS stock pots of 50 L capacity. Having said that Mr lard will supply you with quality items and for my money a decent valve and hop filter is worth the money. If you decide to go with a plate chiller in future a hop filter is essential.

I like to keep a bottle of stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy.

Actually was in Ragiani's today and got a 45l ss pot for £39 the thickness seems good, comparing it to my existing alu. pot (25l) I think another 20l will be more than adequate, also if I did decide later I can still pop a tap and filter into it. (anyone need a 25l pot? :)
