Register your interest: US spring loaded bottle filler

Post by Taz Ales »

For those of you who bottle from the fermenter, you're probably aware of the fact that although bottling sticks are very helpful, but they're also bloody awfully designed. The gravity valve is too simplistic, and often doesn't close properly, which means beer pissing out all over the floor while you scrabble for another bottle.
I've spent a fair amount of time looking for a solution, and even considered designing a better system with a view to manufacturing and getting it into the brew shops, but it seems that there's a simpler option.

In the US there is a bottling stick which apparently is the dog's bollocks. The valve is spring loaded, and as an added bonus it can be dismantled for cleaning properly. So to get to the point, I've found a place to get them from and they're a pretty good price, especially if I order a decent quantity to make better use of the carriage costs. I expect delivery will take quite a long time, especially since this is December, but I reckon I'll be able to bring them to the meetings either in January or February.

So I'm going to order a stack of these. If you're interested in getting one (or more), please register your interest here. If we buy enough it'll end up being about £3.50 each.

It's plastic. For some reason the image doesn't always load.

I've always found the little bottler pretty useless. The valve tends to stick open more often than not. I just use a stainless 3/8" tube and live with the ~1-2 pint wastage that you get in a bottling session.

Having said that, for £3.50 I'll give these yankee devices a punt. Count me in for 2.
cheers
