I have just poured a pint of this even though its outside its bottling schedule.
Its a little cloudy, could that be the oak I wonder? It's been on the oak now just one day short of two months.
The oak comes through, as a soft, almost creamy oak flavour as well as on the nose.
I love it!
I am reconsidering my bottling plans now.
Maybe I should bring it all forward a month and bottle some next weekend.
So my revised schedule is (I am posting this as much for me as you!) is now:
Add White American Oak Slats
Cask Age for 2 months and 1 week
Bottle 4 Quarts & 8 Pints
Sample
Dry Hop with 100g East Kent Goldings
Cask age For 3 weeks
Bottle 4 Quarts & 8 Pints
Drink the rest from cask! (10+ pints)
Further bottle age for 3 months. (just in time for the BBQ?)
Sample & bring along to BCB.
I think next time, (and there will be a next time, believe me!) I would put just two slats of the same size
in a 23 Litre batch, age for two months then bottle.
It would be interesting to oak with just one slat and leave it much longer maybe four months as somewhere
it says that the flavour is better with less oak for longer rather than more oak for a shorter time.
I want to try these oak slats in a strong porter too!
