A sour wheat beer, once popular in Goslar and Leipzig around 1900. Supposedly should taste like bread eaten by the ocean. I had an awesome Marionberry and Hibiscus version from Widmer, but I really fancy

Sounds weirdly appealing, though not sure I would want a full 5 gallons of it. Where did you get the recipe from?

I might not drink all 5g myself......Capn Ahab wrote:Sounds weirdly appealing, though not sure I would want a full 5 gallons of it. Where did you get the recipe from?
Recipe is based on Kris England's recipe in Brewing With Wheat.

Re: Anyhting Gose
Coming from the kettle, the saltiness was definitely noticeable and quite weird. This may have been the presence of sugar versus salt, so we'll have to see what the end product is like.
It's bubbling happily away at 70F, and there are definite sour aromas coming out of the airlock. Right now it doesn't smell very appealing....let's hope that changes.

Re: Anyhting Gose
When I've had a chemically enhanced evening there's nothing better in the morning than a 'hob-nob tea' - large cup of tea plus 1.5 tsp sugar and 1/4 tsp salt. Like the biscuits the magic is in the counterpoint between salt and sweet. It also helps with replenishing stuff lacking from the bloodstream....
I'm looking forward to this beer.

Ah, that would explain why I was drawn to Gose so much in Seattle....Capn Ahab wrote:When I've had a chemically enhanced evening there's nothing better in the morning than a 'hob-nob tea' - large cup of tea plus 1.5 tsp sugar and 1/4 tsp salt. Swap you a couple of bottles of this for a couple of bottles of Belgian porter or imperial IPA? Belgian porter is really good imho.alikocho wrote:So, it's weird. But, I think good weird. It was good fun to watch people at the comp taking their first sip of it, priceless to see their faces as they looked for somewhere to pour it away!
After watching a few people try it, I decided not to :)
