Smokey thing

Brewed a smokey thing today

Rauch Malt 50.5%
Vienna Malt 40.4%
Special Carafa III 5.1%
Brown Malt 4%

Continuously hopped with Saaz and Tettnang to ~ 60 IBU (equal IBU contibution every 10 minutes for a 60 minute boil)

Original Gravity: 1.077
Final Gravity: 1.018
Alcohol Content: 7.7% ABV
Colour: 160 EBC

Fermenting with S-33, initially @ 18C in two separate FV's to manage the spew.

Sounds like something Arbor might do.

Not sure that 0.78 BU/GU will go with all that smoke. Aging it could make for a mellow sup, and oak aging, possibly even more so.

We might even try this at BCB/BBC sometime? Seems like ages since you brought a beer; Projekt 15 is the last one I remember...

Yeah, this was not brewed with a style guide in mind, brewed for the fun. I don't feel the need to conform to style all the time.

The wort tasted pretty good, which is positive. Someone told me they had made an IPA with Saaz so part of the inspiration, partly to use up some impulse purchased malt too :-)

Looking to brew an American wheat beer next, cue the shock and horror.

I've not taken a beer for sharing for some time, hope to change that soon.
