top notch ale. I will be making an american brown very soon so this will be a good base.

Thanks gents,

I used Ray Daniels's book 'Designing Great Beers' when formulating the recipe (as I do when trying a different style for the first time). This is a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend.

Yes, I agree. It is indispensable if you are brewing to style and really helps you refine a recipe. Along with John Palmers book and radical brewing these are the three key texts IMO. My only issue with the daniels book is the almost complete absence of any guidance on belgian beer, you need to go to "brew like a monk" for that.
