Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda, coat all surfaces, leave overnight then wipe off with a cloth and rinse.

Soak in dilute bleach, soak in caustic soda solution, rinse thoroughly. I assume the bin is food grade HDPE?

I have always found my fermenter carrys a hoppy smell from the previous beer and it's never done any harm just hammer it with starsan and chuck another beer on it!

I suspect Rodney's smell may not simply be malt 'n' hops alone :)
