good restaurant in bristol?

Post by SandyM »

Today is my girlfriends 30th birthday and I want to take her somewhere nice for dinner. Anyone got any suggestions? I realise this is really last minute, I've been busy. we liked juniper but went there not that long ago, I was thinking maybe the glass boat but I think she went there for her last birthday.

Anywhere else good?

Where did you go in the end?

McDonald's is good enough to sponsor the Olympics so must be top notch, right?

Assuming a new one hasn't opened recently, this closed more than two years ago :-). Replaced by The Cow Shed which is excellent, but quite pricey.

I reckon the best restaurants in Bristol are:

Pump House on the water
Gallimaufry on Glos Road
Bravas on Cotham Hill
Runcible Spoon on 9 Tree Hill
Bell's Diner
River Station
Clifton Lido

Cheers guys. I tried to post something on Friday from my phone but between crap signal and several glasses of champagne it didn't seem to work!

We ended up going to the glass boat as she hadn't been there before as it turned out. A nice but slightly disappointing meal considering the price of it. If you pay £22.50 for a steak dinner I would expect it to be cooked the way I asked for it to be cooked, rare, not medium. Other than that though, it was lovely. We pottered down to the three tuns after for a few and next thing we knew it was closing time!

Thanks for all the suggestions though guys, gives us a nice range of places to try out in the future. Oh and Steve, Bistro Barrique shut down about 6 months ago and is now called Zazu's or similar.
