"recommended consumption – for men and women – would be cut to half a unit a day"
0.5 units per day = 3.5 per week = 182 units per year x 80 (drinking lifetime 95-15) = 14,650 units
WTF? Fortunately Vacant logic proves:
25 units per week = 1,300 per year x 42 years drinking so far = 54,600 units
54,600/14,650 = 3.72
3.72 * 42 drinking years + 15 start age = 171
Conclusion?
Wish me happy 171st equivalence birthday because if I'd stuck to 0.5 units per day, I'd feel 171 as life crawled boringly by.
Don't drink more than quarter of a pint a DAY?

When a man is tired of beer, he is tired of life; for there is in beer all that life can afford

"Experts from Oxford University." Firstly, there is no such institution. Secondly, have you seen how much academics drink?
