I've never brewed a lager before I have all the ingredients so yesterday I bought a 11.5 pack of SAFLAGER (question) is this big enough for a 23 liter brew

it says DOSAGE 11.5g in 10 to 15 liters at room temperature .2x11.5 in10 to 15liters at 11-15c , I should have read the instructions before I bought it but I never gave it a thought at the time ,I also read in a book that I could ferment it at room temperature with a beer yeast but I had plans to reduce it down to 15 degs

You could step it up a bit by making a starter, should be fine then. Or get another packet :)

Are you doing a single temperature mash or a decoction?

I've no idea Rodney, I have never made a starter. It really might be easier to get another packet!

Rodney,

If you make a starter I normally use about 100g spray malt per litre

In general you need more yeast for a lager than an ale. From memory it's about 2 - 3 times

For a 21Litre batch of 1.050 lager you will need a 1.1L starter (110g spray DME in 1L) but i think you will get away with a 1L starter

When I made my Bock last year I popped a couple in, also rehydrated as per instructions on http://www.fermentis.com/wp-content/upl ... W34pdf.pdf think 1's just not enough considering the temperature you will be fermenting it at.
