Short boil and mash

Post by Jeltz69 »

Has anyone played about with short mashes and boils?

I'm pondering the viability of a quicker brewing method as allocating a day to brewing isn't always that easy and the possibility of brewing in an evening would be handy.

Thinking of mashing and boiling for 30 minutes rather than the 90 I currently do and using dual purpose high alpha hops to compensate for the lower hop utilisation.

I wouldn't expect to get a hot break but that would probably just leave more haze.

I've only ever mashed/boiled for 60 mins each and as long as you have sufficient conversion in the mash, you could shorten the mash. Probably try a starch test?

can do it all in an hour if you don't mind taking a hit on efficiency..

I like to keep a bottle of stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy.
