fermentation
I always ferment with a airlock on the barrel when it gets going there is a lot of pressure in the barrel ,do I allow it to ferment for about a week before I put it under an airlock or will it be alright to leave the airlock on from the beginning of fermentation ?

Re: fermentation
There's no need for an airlock at any time for normal fermentations. Lot's of breweries used to and still do ferment in open vessels. 7-10 days max in the FV then package and drink :)
Some fermentations spew forth and will clog up an airlock, best to put the lid on and just crack it open a bit.

If I read you right, Rodney, it sounds like you're getting a buildup of pressure. Unless your airlock is blocked up, it should vent air without pressure buildup.
These airlocks are prone to clogging, especially if they get hop leaves in them
My usual technique is to use a blowoff tube until the krausen subsides, like this:
Krasuen or trub that gets into the blowoff just gets collected in the water jar.
