Sainsbury's 'Taste The Difference' American Pale Ale

Post by SteveW »

Pale Ale US Craft Beer
The Tap Room Brewing Company, Rochester New York, USA.
Packaged as Sainsbury's 'Taste The Difference' Genuine Craft Ale - American Pale Ale

I saw this in Sainbury's and thought I'd give it a go.

Appearance
Off White tight Head with short persistence
Amber to light copper colour
Aroma
Dried Hedgerow fruits and caramel malts low hop aroma
Taste
Maltiness and raisins some hop bitterness from citrus American hops but at a very low intensity

Overall

Not that BJCP guidelines relate to what beer in the wild should be, but it reminds me very much of beers that
made up a flight in the national home-brew competition in 2011 BJCP Class 10c - American Brown Ale.
To me this is where this beer sits not an American Pale Ale.
For me its not anywhere near hoppy enough and relies too much on malt character.
Even as an American Brown Ale its quite boring and nondescript.

I'd finish this bottle but would not have another.
Shame I bought two!
The craft beer revolution will not be sanitised!
