pleasantly surprised by this bottled l*ger. It has a nice malty character. Allegedly based on how the german immigrants brewed it when they came to the US. It's available in a few pubs now. I had it in the Windmill.

It's a good beer. A tweaked Vienna Lager, brewed with American hops. Not quite in keeping with the brewing of American immigrants as it uses Cascade, which wasn't available before 1972.

I have a clone recipe, from the brewer, somewhere.

I recently had this in Giraffe (Cabot Circus). Nice little beer. I'd be interested to see the recipe, Ali.

I got the recipe from the man himself. Give me some time to translate it to something that makes sense for homebrewers....after the NYCHG party tonight....

I'll tell you now though:

Grist is:
2-row Pale
Munich
Caramel

Hops are:
Vanguard
Halertau Mittefruh
Cascade
Saphir

House yeast (running since the late '70s), but Wlp 800, 820 or 830 would do.

13 Plato (OG 1.052)
33 IBU

More to follow....

Ok. So here we are (sorry this took a while - I got hammered at the NYCHG party, left my notes at the bar and then went off to the mountains for a few days).

OG 1.052
FG 1.013
33 IBU
8 SRM

2-Row Pale 86% (Garret suggested that English Lager Malt would be a good subsitute)
Munich (10L) 8%
Caramel 60L 6%

Willamette 14 IBU at 75 min
Cascade 6 IBU at 35 min
Vanguard 6 IBU at 35 min
Cascade 2.5 IBU at 2 min
Hallertauer Mittelfruh 2.5 IBU at 2 min
Saphir 2.5 IBU at 2 min
Cascade 1g/litre dry hop 10 days
Hallertau Mittlefruh 2g/litre dry hop 10 days

Yeast - Brooklyn house strain. WLP 800, 820, 830 or 833 would all be workable
