Stone Vertical Epic 11.11.11

Post by alikocho »

Draft at Blind Tiger.

The 2011 beer in the series (they missed 01.01.01, so started on 02.02.02). The idea is that they will release a final beer on 12.12.12, and then you can have an epic vertical tasting. http://www.stonebrew.com/epic/

This one's a Belgian Strong Dark and 9.4%. It came in a 12oz glass and nearly made me fall off my stool.

Deep amber-brown with a tight white head. Spice, hints of banana and toffee on the nose. Some citrus and mint. Caramel-toffee malf flavours, with moderate minty, citrus hop flavour. Slight hint of chilli/pepper. Medium body, high carbonation. Dry finish with lingering spiciness and toffee notes.

Overall, an interesting beer. Very hoppy for a Belgian Dark, but the spice, phenols and hops play well together. I'm going to buy a bottle to age till next year, and see how it ages. I suspect that in 12 months is will be more rounded.
