Ali

I'm interested in stewerding and / or Judging.

I have signed up for the next BJCP exam and would be interested in helping with the judging in some capacity.

Is this possible? I have tried to register but it seems i require a BJCP Judge id.

Cheers

Phil

As you are signed up for the BJCP exam, I have assigned you as a novice judge.

Thanks Ali,

I drove through Rosebush last Friday, nice part of the world, excellent views from the top of the hills.

Would have loved to but had 5 adults, two kids, three cars, a week full of holiday stuff and no mobile phone signal.

We were on our way to Newcastle emlyn via a farm shop in Maenclochog (which was not actually in Maenclochog) from Trefin.

I know where it is now so next time we are there i might drop in to have a nose around (and some beer)

I have to say the choice of beer in west wales was abysmal, how do you cope unless you drink all of your own profits?!

There is no farm shop in Maenclochog - there's Cig Lodor (where Mr Grundy bought half a lamb) and Bethesda Farm shop....

Yep - beer choice isn't good in West Wales. Brown twiggy stuff abounds, and it's hard to get landlords to try new things. I mostly drink my own beer....

More easily - head to the Miners Arms. Stand at the Miners as if you were facing the bar, and throw your arm out to the right. Go down the road that way to the mini-roundabout (James Street and Mina Road). Turn right, and walk in front of St Werburghs Food and Wine. Wiper and True are next door.

Right we need people to come and help sort the entries into their respective categories and to label each bottle. Several people volunteered at bcb the other night and the consensus was that Tuesday would be best for most people. It will take place from 5ish at wiper and true in the burg.

Many hands make light work and all that so please let me know if you are able to come and help. I'm sure there'll be beer in it for us somewhere.

Cheers

Sorting sheets and labels have been sent to Mark.

I suggest that what happens is that all of the beer gets unpacked, and you sort into categories as you go. The bottle labels will indicate the style.

Then, once everything is unpacked, remove the bottle labels and place one judging number label on the cap, and one on the neck. The sorting sheets will give the correlation of entry number to judging number (they aren't the same).

Then box up with the category numbers labelled on the side.

Note that the competition will be organised into the following categories this year:

Light Lager and Pilsner (1,2) - 9 entries
Amber Lager, Dark Lagers and Bock (3, 4, 5) - 10 entries
Light and Amber Hybrids (6, 7) - 15 entries
English Pale Ale, Scottish and Irish Ale (8, 9) - 27 entries
American Ales (10) - 38 entries
English Brown Ales (11) - 11 entries
Porter (12) - 19 entries
Stout (13) - 28 entries
IPA (14) - 38 entries
German Wheat and Rye Beer (15) - 9 entries
Belgian and French Ales (16) - 43 entries
Sour Ale (17) - 15 entries
Belgian Strong Ale (18A) - 28 entries
Strong Ale (19) - 13 entries
Fruit Beer (20) - 6 entries
Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (21) - 9 entries
Smoke-Flavored and Wood-Aged Beer (22) - 22 entries
Specialty (23) - 34 entries

Categories have been preserved to keep as many top level categories as possible. Where this would lead to categories being overly small (fewer than six entries), they have been collapsed with another similar category.
