Judges required

Post by Taz Ales »

Right then, despite having probably the highest concentration of qualified and novice BJCP judges in the country, there's currently only 5 of us in Bristol registered to judge at the National in September.

The UK National Homebrew Competition is to be held in Oxford this year on Saturday 14th of September, starting at 9:30am.
It's a short walk from the train station and there's loads of trains through the day, so no transport issues. An Off-peak day return will cost you £31.90, and if you coordinate with other people you can book several tickets together for a discount. We (Marta, Bim and I) bought 3 for £21.90 each.

So, no excuses. If you were on the BJCP course, please register to judge as soon as possible. We need more judges.
If you weren't on the BJCP course and would like to judge, you can register as a Non-BJCP Novice.

The address is: West Oxford Community Centre, Botley Road,Oxford, OX2 0BT

I put down to judge on the comp website, but have just booked a week in Spain, so will not make it. Bugger really, as I was looking forward to it....

For info, I am having some issues with the website hanging. I have e-mailed Ali who is investigating.
I like to keep a bottle of stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy.

There is a cheap train to get there by 9am but the cheap one back is 16:37 which is probably when the afternoon judging will be starting :)

Well, having more judges will hopefully avoid this problem. Along with not allowing beer to be brought on the day.

There are cheap trains back all evening.

We bought a group ticket for 3 people: Off peak day return.
Booked seats for the outward journey at 7am, and we can return on any of the following trains:
  • dep. 16:37 - arr. 18:15
    dep. 17:37 - arr. 19:15
    dep. 18:37 - arr. 20:15
    dep. 19:37 - arr. 21:16
    dep. 20:07 - arr. 21:45
    dep. 20:37 - arr. 22:14
    dep. 21:50 - arr. 23:15
Also I got the price wrong in the above message, we found a better deal on http://www.redspottedhanky.com/.
£43.35

Just to be clear, that's £43.35 split between 3 people, not per ticket.
£14.45 per person.

My flight gets back to Bristol at 8.40am on the day, so am hoping to make it to at least the afternoon session.

At the moment, I'm rather counting on it. I only have 15 judges signed up.

I have agreed with Ali to act as a collection point for entries from Bristol. So if you want to save yourself some postage, get your entries to me in the 1st week of september - you can bring them to the BBQ if you are able.
cheers
