For what it's worth I voted for your beer and correctly identified it as yours. I didn't detect the oaky smoky but there was a hint of brett. I thought it was well balanced and it definitely hit the spot for me.

I like to keep a bottle of stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy.

I don't get any brett from it, although it's possible as the oak wasn't sterlized. But the oak/smoke combination could also potentially give the impression of brett if you didn't identify them.steve crawshaw wrote:For what it's worth I voted for your beer and correctly identified it as yours. I guess that it probably did stick out as my kind of beer....

Sorry Ali, missed you out and have now corrected the post. I'm a bit knackered having worked 11 days on the bounce.....
Matt and SteveW got equal votes and the Arbor team judged Steve's to be the better of the two.

Steve had better find that recipe then! Ali, I correctly identified your beer as well. It was between you, Steve and Matt for my final choice to vote on. I went with Matt in the end but it was a tough choice between the three for me.
Burns stuff. And makes beer. Usually not at the same time.

I'm taking these as compliments, but it's good to know that my beers stick out as mine. It's nice to know that one's beer is recognisably one's own as I take the steps of going commercial on a small scale. Not being part of the crowd is part of my business plan for Pembrokeshire (as the only person out here not brewing best bitters and golden ales as the portfolio).

I thought Ali's and Rodney's were quite similar.
Difficult to choose between SteveW and Matt too :)

Rodney's was a 10%ABV smoked and wood aged porter too?RogerP wrote:I thought Ali's and Rodney's were quite similar.

I dunno, not privvy to the recipe, but it was actually rather good. One beer was also good, but wasn't what most people would call a WW and a few just failed to hit it for me, whilst they were good, they were too specialised and I probably would not have wanted a second pint.
Re: Winter Warmer mini-comp - December 6th
So I found a bottle if hot sauce in my bag this morning and don't know if was given it or nicked it (anything's possible). Anyway it's bloody lovely. Is it a Steve W creation?
