Water treatment - links

Post by PMowdes »

Hi everyone

Here are the links to the various things I talked about on Monday.

Bru'n water water treatment calculator (I recommend the paid version as it is the most complete, I think the required donation is about $5)

https://sites.google.com/site/brunwater/

John Palmers water calculator (useful for BJCP style target profiles)

http://www.lamotte.com/en/food-beverage/7188-01.html

http://www.lamotte.com/images/palmerswatercalc.xlsx

Bristol water (municipal water quality)

http://www.bristolwater.co.uk/your-home ... r-quality/

Salifert alkalinity test kit (you should be able to find these as cheap as £6)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KH-Alkalinity ... Swe-FU60Qn

Brew toad colour convertor (useful for entering your grist data into Bru'n water)

https://www.brewtoad.com/tools/color-converter

I'll try to get a link to the presentation up as soon as I can get it onto Google docs

Good luck!!

Cheers for this Phil. A good talk and some useful links, particularly the John Palmer's water calculator by style which I hadn't thought of before.

It was a good talk and it's got me thinking.

I do have a problem that most of the spreadsheets don't work on a Mac :(

I have found an online calculator that seems to work - by GW http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/water.html but it does not take the exact grist into account, just the beer style. Still it is a good starting point, I might resurrect a PC one day.

Interesting measurements on my water- out of the tap it's 180mg/L CaCO3 and boiled its 100mg/L

Roger,
I'm on a Mac, just install http://www.libreoffice.org/?gclid=CjwKE ... oCh-zw_wcB this opens all the sheets fine.

I shall try that as, whilst Pages is opening them, a lot of the cells are not working as intended. Mark also had a suggestion which I'll try out.

Good talk Phil, I'm just getting on to it.

The Bristol water link is bust at the moment but if you call them on 0345 702 3797 a very helpful lady will sort it.
