Re: Stalled Fermentation - any tips?

If i understand you correctly you made a starter, but only let it ferment for 20 minutes? That will not have achieved anything I did, directions suggested pitching straight to the wort, I thought a 20 minute start in a little wort followed by mixing into wort would have been better. Might try the s...

Re: Immersion heaters

Yep - just found a decent aquarium heater for a tenner on Amazon. Ideally i'd like to submerge in the fermenter directly rather than have an enormous bucket of water but I'll trust your advice and won't risk my beer.

Immersion heaters

Has anyone used a submersible immersion heater like the one here http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... eater.html
They are roughly the same price as the brew belt but have a thermostatic control so seem many times more useful.

Cheers,

Stalled Fermentation - any tips?

I've brewed a Scottish ale with honey, OG was 1.04 and it's been fermenting for 7 days now with a current gravity of 1.02, instead of the target 1.01. It took 2 days before there was visible signs of fermentation in the airlock, it fermented vigorously for a few days and has a healthy looking krause...

Re: recirculating water for sparge

...they often won't give you a rolling boil This is a problem I considered but there seem to be several reviews on Amazon of homebrewers who seem to say it maintains a rolling boil quite nicely, so hopefully it will work! If not, with the price I paid, I shouldn't make much of a loss if Ebay it. Ke...

Re: recirculating water for sparge

Thanks for the heads up on those boilers - i'd much prefer stainless steel to plastic so will definitely have a look at those. What about fitting a hop strainer to that bufallo, is it a standard tap? I think i won't go for recirculation, i don't want to add a pump into my setup at the moment and I t...

Re: recirculating water for sparge

I think I'll go for the basic non-pid boiler and continue to mash in my cool box rather than trying to do it all in one vessel. I'll be able to do full volume mash and boil at last and I'll invest in coil chiller too. Any suggetsions on temperature settings for the boil ? Roll on payday so I can upd...
