Re: Thinking about moving to Corni kegs
I also bought from homebrewcompany.ie. I'm not sure how "reconditioned" they are - o rings were shot on the ones I received. But they sent out replacements and the kegs have been good since. I don't think you can go too wrong at £30 per keg.

Re: Centennial IPA
I agree with the comment on bittering hops, especially with the current hop market. And I don't really think splitting 45 and 30 min additions will do much - all volatile hop oils will boil off anyway.

Re: baking soda
Hi Rodney,
Sodium Bicarbonate or Bicarbonate of Soda. It should be with the cake making ingredients in most Supermarkets.

Re: Water treatment experiment
Experiment in progress. Results so far: APA with no water treatment: Mash pH=6.1 APA with 1.5mL of CRS per 1L of water: mash pH=5.2 The boil for the treated-water brew is nearly finished. The Grainfather has been excellent, though we've found that pellet hops tend to clog up the pump filter, result...

Re: Best bitter recipe
As per Jeltz's reply the implication is they are using it to reduce temporary hardness, much as CRS/AMS (which is just a proprietary blend of HCl and H2SO4). However as it is the hydrogen molecule that reacts with the Bicarbonate (gives CO2 + H2O), this will increase the sulphate ion concentration....
