Re: Water treatment experiment

I have a electric ph meter, could use my grainfather, it makes things quick... I'll be free this weekend. Heck yeah! What day do you prefer? Tomorrow is probably better for me, but I'm not too fussy. I can bring any ingredients needed too, as long as they can be crammed into my backpack. I'll ask A...

I'm inclined to agree, but which is more prudent to test first? Or would you suggest we add another dimension to the test matrix?

Water treatment experiment

Hi everyone, We've been chatting more and more about water treatment at meetings as of late, and I thought it would be fun to do an experiment to see what kind of difference it really makes with Bristol water. The idea is that we would do two brews of a typical APA (Sierra Nevada clone would be a go...

Oh, I suppose in the interest of keeping the entries anonymous, glass unlabeled bottles are preferred. But since this really isn't a super-serious event, plastic is fine if glass doesn't float your boat.

Re: Wort Aeration - Aquarium Pump 120 L/H

I use a little 75L/hr aquarium pump to aerate, and it seems to do the trick very well. You won't want too high a flow rate, otherwise you'll generate lots of foam which tends to overflow your container. If you were worried about not getting enough flow, you can always just run it for longer, there's...

Trophy engraving

Hi dudes, For those that missed it, I'm going to take a crack at getting our NHC trophy engraved. The engraving plate already has a few entries on it, one entry per line, so I figure we'll stick with this standard, though we don't really have to. The problem is that there isn't much space for text. ...

Re: December meeting: Winter Warmer Comp

Hi Rodney,
If you drop your bottles with someone at the November meeting, I'm sure they can ferry it on to the Dec meeting. I'm happy to take them.

December meeting: Winter Warmer Comp

Just a quick note that the December meeting (7/12) will feature our annual winter warmer friendly competition. The style is open to interpretation, just bring a beer you'd like to drink at the end of a cold day out. I seem to recall that 3 bottles is the number to bring, but do please correct me if ...

Re: problem with mash tun

For a short-term fix, just stir up the mash every 15 minutes or so. Even well-insulated mash tuns can benefit from an occasional stir, especially in the first few minutes of mashing when the inner walls of the mash tun haven't fully heat-soaked yet, and thus are still drawing heat out of the mash.
