I have been using slants for last 2 years. So i always do 3 step starter 20-40ml -> aprox 200ml-> 1,2L+.
I wouldn't take instructions too seriuously.

Brewlab yeast
Hi
Does anyone have any expirience with this yeasts?
So far I am a little disapointed by using Themes Valley 2, but it could be just one of those baches which are not too sucessful rather than bad yeast strain.
What do you think about them?

Re: Session IPA
I think better for this purpose is Lugols Iodine (it is clear, comparing to trincture of Iodine - alcohol solution) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lugol%27s_iodinealikocho wrote: Add a few drops of tincture of iodine (get it from the chemist).

Hi I read that you can perform iodine test on piece of chalk, and it is quite difficult to perform iodine test on very dark beers http://www.wiki.piwo.org/Plik:Pr%C3%B3ba_jodowa.JPG On left positive result, middle not fully converted, and right negaitve result. It would be challenging on very dark ...

Have you ever had any problems with attenuation because of short mashing time?alikocho wrote:I raised the mash temp to mash out after conversion, then started running off.

Re: Session IPA
Brewed tonight. Mashed at 157F for 20 minutes, mashed out at 165F for 10 minutes. No sparge. 70% efficiency (as expected). All based on the schedule in the Stone book, and from listening to BrewStrong on the Brewing Network. Conversion was complete (based on iodine test) after 20 minutes. Falconer'...

Re: Club only Competitions 2012
As a SCB we are organizing competition. And winer of category bitter will be able to send beer to this club only competition.
But we don't really know how to organize qualifications. It is impossible to organize local competitions every few months.

Re: Black IPA
This recipe looks great, I will put it on my list to brew on the first place!I will have to substitute hops, but I think mixture of Styrian goldings, cascade and citra should work fine :)
